A. I spent a lot of time with this speaker during my review evaluation and tried it with no less than four integrated amps. I found it a straightforward speaker to match.
Since it’s relatively undemanding power-wise, you don’t need a powerhouse of an amp (read: super expensive) to drive them. Any quality integrated amp will make them sound good, but keep in mind, the more transparent the source/amp, the more transparent the result. I wasn’t given a budget to work with, so I will provide the option that sounded best based on my listening time.
The optimum match will be an amp with a somewhat refined or sweet top end and reasonable control over the low end. My favorite pairing was with the Cambridge Audio CXA81 ($1299), which has both in spades. The synergy there was excellent, and it brought the RP-600Ms to life.
If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, check out the predecessor of the CXA81, the Cambridge Audio CXA80. It’s very similar to the former, with almost the same specs (80w per channel, USB DAC) but at a much lower price. ($699 vs. $1299). The 81 plays with a little more authority and has a better internal DAC, but the 80 is amazing as well, and a real bargain at its current price point.
BTW, if you’re looking to pick-up the Klipsch RP-600M, this is a great time to do it. It’s currently on sale for $472.00, so you can save $157.00 or 25% off the regular price! Some people have preconceived notions about Klipsch speakers (bright, boomy), but forget all of them when you talk about the 600M. It’s a wonderfully balanced speaker that knows how to boogie!
