Product Of The Year 2019-All-In-One Systems: The Wonderful SVS Prime Wireless Powered Speaker System!

The Hifitrends.com Product Of The Year is an award given to an exceptional product that has passed across our desk– or through our listening room– this past year.

It’s not a “Best Of”‌ award, it’s just us giving recognition to gear we found to have extraordinary value and performance within its category.

Also, since we cover low-cost, high-performance gear, you can expect our selections to be more affordable than some of the stuff you see on other Hi-Fi Product Of The Year lists.

Product Of The Year 2019-All-In-One Systems: SVS Prime Wireless Powered Speaker System

I‌’m personally not crazy about all-in-one systems because I find that building a 2-ch system from various components is a big part of the fun. However, I do acknowledge the utility of such products.

Not everyone has the time or the determination to build a system from scratch, so an all-in-one can be an excellent short cut. The manufacturer has done all the hard work of matching speakers, amps, DAC, and source for you.

The SVS Prime Wireless Powered Speaker System was the All-In-One system that impressed us most this year due to its crazy value for the money. It only costs $599, and for that meager amount, you get two gloss finish bookshelf speakers, 200 watts of amplification, a ton of inputs/outputs, and a DTS‌ Play-Fi streamer.

To put that in perspective, a good DTS‌ Play-Fi streamer like the Audiolab 6000N‌ Play (which happens to be on our Recommended Gear list) costs $599 by itself. That’s before you pick up an amp or speakers.

Play-Fi opens the door to thousands of songs from streaming services– provided you have a paid subscription– or music stored on a local network drive. You can also plug in a compact disk player or transport if you want to go old skool.

When I reviewed these speakers earlier this year, I‌ was shocked at the large scale sound emitted from these relatively compact speakers. The two bookshelf speakers disappeared from my stands, the soundstage was wide, and the bass was respectable for a system with two 4.5 inch midbass/woofers.

Of course, some will want earth-shaking bass, and if so, that’s not a problem. The Prime Wireless speakers have a sub out on the back to accommodate one of SVS’ well-respected subwoofers. The output is even smart enough to detect a sub and route all the low bass to the subwoofer automatically.

The $599 SVS Prime Wireless Powered Speaker System is a fantastic piece of audio design. It would be difficult, if not impossible, to put together a separates system of this quality for the price. If you’re looking for a simple hi-fi solution on a budget, check these out!
