Triangle’s Majestic BOREA BR08 Floorstanding Speakers In The House! First Impressions And Unboxing Pics

Since it was released last year, the Triangle BOREA series speakers have been a hit with reviewer after reviewer, including me. Most reviewers have fallen in love with the BOREA BR03 Bookshelf, myself included.

I even went as far as making the BR03 my 2019 Product of the Year, calling them the new “King” of speakers costing around $500, based on their balanced, yet robust sound.

So that leads me to the speakers I have today, the $1399 BOREA BR08 Floorstanding speakers. I was very interested in hearing the BR03’s bigger brother, hoping to find out how they compared in terms of sound quality, and also to determine if bigger was better in this case.

In terms of size and number of drivers, the BR08 is the smaller of the two floorstanders in the BOREA line, but that doesn’t mean they are “itty-bitty” by any stretch. Each tower is about 40 inches tall, making them appear quite imposing in my modest listening space.

They are three-way speakers, using a shallow horn-loaded silk dome tweeter combined with Triangle’s signature paper cone midrange (taken from the upscale Esprit EZ line), and two fiberglass bass drivers. Of course, you’d expect them to dig a little deeper than the bookshelf model.

They come in the same colors as the BR03, meaning Black, Walnut, or White, and as you can see from the pics, I got the Walnut version, which is usually my first choice of color for any speaker.

You also may notice the plinths the BR08s are standing on. I feel like they add some class to a very affordable speaker. They also support the installation of carpet spikes or rubber feet for hardwood floors.

As soon as you attempt to move one of these towers, you will understand that these are some serious speakers, with a solid cabinet and serious internal bracing. Everything about them says quality.

Now the only thing to do is to play some music and start burning them in. Stay tuned for my review; I can’t wait to discuss the differences between the BR08 and my beloved BR03.
