Introduction

Soundpeats, a Chinese audio company known for its affordable, high-quality products, has released the latest iteration of its midrange true wireless earbuds, the Air4 Pro. Building upon the success of the previous Air3 Pro model, the Air4 Pro introduces a range of enhancements, including Qualcomm aptX Lossless (Adaptive) wireless technology for high-fidelity audio, more robust active noise cancellation, and a relatively large 13mm dynamic driver for richer sound.

Design

The Soundpeats Air4 Pro sports a sleek and modern design with a glossy plastic housing, exuding an air of sophistication. They come in black or white. The earpieces are lightweight and compact, possessing a similar contour to my trusty Apple AirPods Pro, which provides a snug and comfortable fit in the ears.

On the backside of each bud is a small touch-sensitive surface for the earbuds’ touch controls, and while the touch surfaces were easy to access, I did find them to be a little slow to respond at times. That said, they worked fast enough to get the job done, and the touch protocol was intuitive, making the earphones easy to use overall.

Additionally, three sets of ear tips (S, M, L with one pre-installed) are provided to accommodate different ear shapes and sizes. The oval charging case, too, complements the earbuds’ design, offering a compact and stylish solution for storage and charging. On the front of the case is a multi-color light that gives you the battery and charging levels, which is a nice touch. You also get a short USB-C charging cable in the box, which is typical.

Soundpeats Air4 Pro Review

Underneath their stylish exterior, the Soundpeats Air4 Pro packs a plethora of features that add a significant bit of value. Here’s a closer look at some of the key features:

Qualcomm aptX Lossless/AptX Voice wireless technology

The Air4 Pro are among the first earbuds to embrace Qualcomm aptX Lossless (Adaptive) wireless technology, enabling the transmission of CD-quality audio without the compression associated with standard Bluetooth wireless audio. This translates to a noticeably more transparent and more detailed listening experience.

They also have Qualcomm AptX Voice for remarkable call quality. I placed several calls with the Air 4 Pro, and the conversation was very clear on both ends. The Bluetooth version is 5.3, so connections to my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Phone were quick and stable. Air 4 Pro can also use the Bluetooth LE Audio connection available on certain phones, but this will remove the ability to use the companion app and its customization features.

Active noise cancellation (ANC)

Immerse yourself in your music or podcasts with the Air4 Pro’s effective active noise cancellation. They feature adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) that intelligently adapts to your surroundings, changing the noise canceling level based on the surrounding noise.

According to Soundpeats, they can offer up to 43db of noise cancellation for use in very loud environments like Airplanes, Trains, etc. I found the ANC quite effective in everyday settings like working at my desk or in extraordinarily loud environments like on a plane. They do a great job cutting the low rumble of a plane engine and high-pitched sounds like voices.

I found the ANC to be just a notch below the class leaders like Sony and Technics, but since they cost just a fraction of those earphones, they match up pretty well, dollar for dollar. They are also designed to resist wind noise, making them suitable for outdoor activities.

IPX4 water resistance

Whether you’re hitting the gym or braving the elements, the Air4 Pro’s IPX4 water resistance provides peace of mind, protecting them against sweat and light rain. This makes them ideal for active users and outdoor enthusiasts.

Up to 6 hours of playback time

With a single charge, the Air4 Pro delivers up to 6 hours of playback time (4 with ANC on), which is pretty good and compares favorably to the competition. Additionally, the charging case provides an extra 18 hours of playback time, extending the total usage time to an impressive 24 hours. A 1.5-hour charge gives you 6 hours of playback time on the earbuds.

In-Ear Detection/App Customization

The Air4 Pro has in-ear detection, which pauses playback when removed from the ears to save battery life. That’s a feature I love, and you don’t always get it at this price point. In addition, the SOUNDPEATS App allows users to customize their audio preferences with a custom/preset EQ. The app is pretty basic, but it works well for what it does.

Low-Latency Game Mode/Dual Device Connection

Air4 Pro earphones offer a low-latency gaming mode with an 88ms delay, giving gamers a lag-free experience. They also allow for dual-device connection, enabling users to switch between their phone and tablet quickly and easily.

Sound Quality

The Soundpeats Air4 Pro truly shine in their sound quality, delivering an impressive audio experience that surpasses expectations at their price point. The Qualcomm aptX Lossless wireless technology makes a noticeable difference, providing a clear, detailed, and well-balanced sound signature.

The relatively large 13mm dynamic driver delivers a deep, punchy, and remarkably articulate bass without overpowering the mids and highs, which remain clear and present. The highs are extended and airy, providing a sense of spaciousness and detail.

Overall, the Air4 Pro offers an exceptional sound quality that rivals more expensive earbuds. Compared to my daily driver Air Pods Pro earphones, I find that the Apple Buds have a little more resolution and detail overall, especially in the highs.

However, the Air4 Pros aren’t far behind and have a much better-defined bottom end, which gives them better dynamics. These earphones have some of the best dynamics I’ve heard from a pair of TWS earbuds.

Soundpeats Air4 Pro Review: Should you buy it?

In a word, Yes. If you’re seeking true wireless earbuds that combine exceptional sound quality, a comfortable fit, and good battery life at an affordable price, the Soundpeats Air4 Pro are an excellent choice. They cater to a wide range of users, from audiophiles seeking high-fidelity audio on a budget to casual listeners looking for a great everyday listening experience. They are an outstanding value if you have a source that’s compatible with aptX adaptive.

Soundpeats Air4 Pro Review: Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Soundpeats Air4 Pro is an impressive pair of true wireless earbuds that offer great value. They deliver many flagship features for a bargain basement price, and the sound is top-tier with plenty of detail, separation, and a remarkably deep bass that adds nice richness without sounding boomy.
