Best of 2022 Awards-Passive Speakers: Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II Bookshelf Speaker ($749)
When it was released, the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M was lauded for its easygoing nature and musicality. It earned its place on many “Best of” lists over time and still makes many audiophiles very happy.
Well, its sequel, the Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-600M II, released earlier this year, has a few improvements from the original version, such as more clarity, greater detail, and a more defined low end. However, we did notice the upper frequencies were a bit more intense than before, so extra caution should be taken when selecting the appropriate equipment.
That said, the build quality is remarkable, and the efficiency with which it reproduces sound makes it stand out from other speakers in the same price range. In addition, its energy and transparency make it perfect for any music. If you enjoyed the first 600M, you should try the new version; the original formula is taken up to the next level.
Best Speakers For Music-Powered Speakers: Q Acoustics M20 HD Music System ($699)
This year, we came across no shortage of powered speaker systems, and we have several more on deck for the new year. That said, there was one that ended up being a clear favorite for its uncanny ability just to sound right no matter what music we threw at it.
That would be the Q Acoustics M20 HD Powered Wireless Music System, a user-friendly, solidly produced, and surprisingly well-sounding hi-fi system. It is unbelievable that one can get such an elegant system with a built-in USB DAC, excellent Bluetooth, and Digital and Optical connectors for so inexpensive. The only possible drawbacks could be the absence of a phono input and an overly robust low-end.
In my opinion, these are not deal-breakers, and we would have a hard time suggesting any other system to somebody with a budget of $600 for their hi-fi. We would unquestionably pick this system over a used one. Setting up a capable hi-fi system has never been so easy!
