Today, Audeze, a company best known for reference-quality Planar Magnetic headphones, launched CRBN, a new electrostatic headphone with a novel carbon nano-tube technology in the drivers. This tech is based around a web of carbon nano tubes embedded into the thin diaphragms, which according to Audeze provides increased sensitivity and lower distortion due to enhanced electrostatic charge. The nano tubes are also supposed to provide better control over diaphragm movement.
Along with the advanced drivers, the CRBN also has a sleek new design with custom-designed leather earpads for fit and a specially designed Electrostatic Audio cable that works with STAX-type 580 volt amplifiers. At 300g these headphones should also be lightweight and comfortable. The $4500 CRBN is available for special order via the Audeze website, or via select retailers. Each headphone is made to order, and has a four-week minimum lead time.
