Cambridge Audio’s New True Wireless Earbuds Are Alluring!
High-Fidelity sound is the new frontier when it comes to True Wireless Earbuds, and Cambridge Audio’s latest earphones seek to provide premium audio at a reasonable price.
Dubbed the Melomania Touch, Cambridge Audio’s new wireless buds incorporate a new “High-Performance” Audio Mode (engaged by default), which is said to provide greater soundstage, lower noise, and higher dynamic range than other earphones. The essence of this sound enhancement is their “hi-fi grade amplification technology,” which is said to be based on the amp circuitry in their CX series hi-fi components (which we loved during our review).
Along with the high-power amp tech, the Melomania Touch also has AAC and aptX codecs for near CD-quality audio streams. Bluetooth 5.0 adds signal stability and enhanced battery life, which is namely about 7 hours playback in “High-Performance” Audio Mode and 9 hours in a “Low Power Mode.” It can be assumed sound quality is reduced in that mode. The included charging case is said to provide four additional charges.
As the name says, these earphones use touch controls (a tap on the earpiece) to play and pause music, skip tracks, change volume, and take hands-free calls. You can also turn on the Melomania Touch’s “Transparency Mode,” which allows you to hear your surroundings without removing them from your ears.
Rounding out the features is Qualcomm’s Clear Voice Capture (cVc) noise-canceling technology for clarity during phone calls, IPX4 certification for protection against water and sweat, and a new Melomania app. Compatible with iOS and Android devices, the new app lets you set EQ, locate misplaced earbuds via a map, and check battery life.
All in all, it sounds like a decent little package for the price. ($149.95 in the U.S.). Look for Melomania Touch on the Cambridge Audio Website and Amazon January 1st, 2021.
