Best Budget Floorstanding Speakers (2023)

Searching for the best budget floorstanding speakers in 2023? Look no further! This article highlights top-rated and affordable floorstanding speakers that deliver exceptional sound quality without draining your wallet.

When it comes to creating a captivating, full-range audio experience, floorstanding speakers are the way to go. These larger speakers, also known as tower speakers, offer a range of advantages over their bookshelf counterparts. Not only do they provide deeper bass and a wider frequency range, but they also can fill larger rooms with rich, powerful sound. In this article, we will explore some of the best budget floorstanding speakers (below $1000 a pair) that deliver hi-fi performance without draining your bank account.

Benefits of Floorstanding Speakers

Floorstanding speakers excel in several key areas, making them popular among music lovers, audiophiles, and even home theater enthusiasts. One of the primary advantages of floorstanding speakers is their ability to reproduce deeper bass frequencies than their standmount counterparts (in most cases). This is made possible by more woofers and/or larger cabinets, allowing for more significant air displacement. As a result, floorstanding speakers can deliver a more impactful low-end response, eliminating the need for a separate subwoofer in some applications.

In addition to their enhanced bass reproduction, floorstanding speakers can offer a wider frequency range compared to bookshelf speakers. This is due to their multiple drivers, including dedicated mid-range and treble units. The increased driver count allows for more accurate and detailed sound reproduction across the entire frequency spectrum, resulting in a more immersive listening experience.

Moreover, floorstanding speakers are designed to deliver higher sound pressure levels, making them ideal for larger rooms. Their larger size and increased power handling capabilities enable them to fill a space with sound, ensuring that every corner of the room is engulfed in music or movie soundtracks. This makes them perfect for music enthusiasts wanting to recreate a live concert experience and home theater enthusiasts looking to replicate the cinema feel in their living rooms.

What to Consider When Choosing Floorstanding Speakers

Before diving into our list of the best budget floorstanding speakers, it’s important to consider a few key factors when making your selection. These factors will help you determine which speakers will best suit your audio needs and fit within your budget.

Number of Drivers

Floorstanding speakers come in various configurations, including two-way, three-way, and even four-way designs. The number of drivers in a speaker affects its ability to reproduce different frequencies accurately. Two-way speakers usually feature one woofer and one tweeter. In contrast, three-way speakers usually add a dedicated mid-range driver and several bass woofers for improved clarity and detail. Four-way speakers typically go a step further by adding an additional driver for enhanced midrange (or high-frequency) performance.

Power

For the scope of this article, floorstanding speakers are passive speakers that require an external amplifier or receiver to power them. Ensuring that your amplifier or receiver can deliver enough power to drive the speakers effectively is essential. Consider the power handling capabilities of the speakers and match them with an amplifier that can provide sufficient power for optimal performance.

Height

The height of floorstanding speakers can vary, with most models standing between three and four feet tall. Taller speakers offer advantages such as increased driver separation and positioning the midrange and tweeters closer to ear level for better sound localization. However, it’s important to consider the available space in your room and ensure that the speakers’ height will not pose any placement challenges.

Single or Pair

While many floorstanding speakers are sold individually, some models are sold in pairs. When purchasing floorstanding speakers, be mindful of whether you are buying a single speaker or a pair. Single speakers are often sold individually to provide flexibility in replacing or upgrading a single unit. Ensure you know the pricing and whether you need to purchase one or two speakers to complete your setup.

    Hi,

Have you tested the Focal Vestia? I was on the fence between the Vestia and the Triangle but ultimately thought the Vestia was slightly superior for the small details.

    Kind regards,
    Randy

    1. Hi, I have the Vestia in house, and the review is coming soon…that said, that speaker costs a lot more…thanks for reading!

  2. I wish you could have compared the Wharfedale 12.3 to the triangle Borea BR07 towers. It would have been an apples to apples comparison. Btw, when will somebody finally review a pair of Borea BR07s? The BR03s and BR08s have been reviewed to death, but nothing on the 07 towers, crickets. Personally I own a pair of 03s and have owned the 09s, but sold them because of poor bass quantity and quality with its three bass woofers. I have been running a pair of Borea BR07 entry-level towers from Triangle. As far as I’m concerned the 07s are the sweet spot and the most balanced out of the Borea line. Pound for pound, really good bass extension and quality, neutral and natural midrange, and open and extended high frequencies. They are keepers. Excellent!!
    Thank you
