Powered, or Active Speakers are becoming a big thing in the 2-Channel audio world. For those who are turned off by the prospect of matching an amp to a set of speakers, or even hooking up stereo equipment, active speakers are a simple way to get into audio with a minimum amount of fuss.
There must be a lot of interest in them, because over the last year or so, a good segment of audiophile speaker manufacturers have released them in both standmount and floorstanding versions. Today I have the $800 ELARA LN01A Active Bookshelf from French speaker manufacturer Triangle, and it pretty much has everything you need for a quality 2-Channel system, including 50w x 2 Class D amplification, Bluetooth APT-X 4.0, a Sub Out & a Phono Input. All you need is a source which can be as simple as a smartphone playing TIDAL over Bluetooth.
Stay tuned for my upcoming review…
