As an Audiophile, good music is one thing, but good sonics is just as important. I not only want my music to induce toe-tapping but it should also be well recorded so it can make all the electronics, speakers or headphones that I constantly obsess over shine. Here’s my list of great music from 2018 that probably wasn’t on most peoples radar, but definitely enhanced the enjoyment of carefully matched hi-fi setups I listened to throughout the year.
1. Code Girl / Mary Halvorson
2. Drogas Wave / Lupe Fiasco
3. Geography / Tom Misch
4. Green / Robohands
5. Live At Van Gelder’s / Ben Paterson
6. LOVEPLAYDANCE – 8 Scenes from the Floor / TOSHIO MATSUURA GROUP
7. Streams of Thought, Vol. 1 / Black Thought
8. Streams of Thought, Vol. 2 / Black Thought
9. THE SHAKEDOWN featuring The 22archestra / Tenderlonious
10. The Midnight Hour / Adrian Younge, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and The Midnight Hour

I’m an audio writer who started as a young audio salesman/consumer electronics professional back in the late 90s. That’s where I discovered the magic of 2-Channel sound. My thirst for great sound has led me on a delightful music quest that continues today.
