Andover Audio Releases SpinBase MAX 2: Enhanced Audio for Turntables

Andover Audio has launched the SpinBase MAX 2, an upgraded version of its midrange turntable speaker system. This new model features an improved acoustic suspension enclosure design that is said to significantly enhance sound quality compared to the original. Like the SpinBase 2, the MAX 2 utilizes Andover’s IsoGroove™ technology to minimize feedback, allowing any turntable to be placed directly on top of it.

Design and Sound Quality

The SpinBase MAX 2 features a sealed enclosure to enhance bass quality. According to Andover’s Director of Engineering and Product, Bob Hazelwood, this design offers more detail, better tonality, and a richer, more extended bass response. He also states that the SpinBase MAX 2 has a refined sound, with greater neutrality and a wider frequency range.

Driver System and Amplifier

Furthermore, the Andover Audio SpinBase MAX 2 includes six drivers: two 3/4″ silk-dome tweeters and four 3.5″ woofers. This configuration aims to provide precise and detailed bass reproduction and a wide dynamic range. The system should deliver punchy bass and crisp highs for all music genres. The SpinBase MAX 2, also like the original SpinBase, creates a 270° panoramic soundstage.

The SpinBase MAX 2 also has a 100W (opposed to 60W in the SpinBase MAX) Dual Direct-Drive class-D amplifier setup with separate amplifiers for the woofers and tweeters. This amplifier stage is designed for clear and impactful audio.

Connectivity

In addition, the SpinBase MAX 2 offers various connectivity options, including Phono and Line (Aux) inputs, an Optical Digital input, and USB flash-drive playback. It also has a subwoofer output for added bass and a headphone output for private listening.

Bluetooth

The SpinBase MAX 2 uses separate chips for a stable two-way Bluetooth connection. Users can stream playlists from devices with Bluetooth and transmit wirelessly to Bluetooth-enabled speakers or headphones.

Control and Design

The SpinBase MAX 2 comes with an IR remote control for adjusting volume, switching inputs, and fine-tuning bass and treble. It retains the appearance of the original SpinBase series with a heathered fabric wrap and Andover’s main control knob and is available in black or white. It complements Andover’s Spin Collection, which includes the SpinSub subwoofer, the SpinDeck 2 turntable, and the SpinStand.

Availability

The SpinBase MAX 2 is available for $549 from www.andoveraudio.com and Amazon.
