Kinera has been on a roll. Over the last couple of years, the company has put out a constant stream of beautifully handpainted earphones, and each one has an interesting theme based on Norse mythology.
Their latest creation is called the Kinera Imperial Skuld. It’s named after Skuld, one of the mythological “Sisters of Fate,” known for having sway over the future.
By the way, we loved their Freya, an awesome sounding IEM with three balanced armature drivers and one dynamic driver per side. (Check out our review here)
The Skuld has a similar build to the Freya, with a shiny contoured polycarbonate shell accented by a beautiful array of metallic colors underneath.
Unlike Freya, which has a drip effect, the Skuld has more of a gold leaf/speckled motif, which is amazingly beautiful.
The Skuld also has a complement of five Balanced Armature drivers instead of a Dynamic/BA hybrid setup, which should provide it with more clarity and detail. That would most likely come at the expense of some bass depth and punch, which a dynamic driver would supply.
Kinera describes the tuning as one of the flattest frequency response ranges they have done in an IEM, so it looks like they are aiming for a reference-type sound.
As usual, Kinera is quite generous with its accessory package, which notably includes a balanced silver-plated cable. The full list is below:
