Cambridge Audio ups the ante with powerful new Monoblocks!
Today, Cambridge Audio announced a potent new addition to their Flagship Edge components, the Edge M monoblock power amplifier ($4000). The 200W RMS (into 8 Ohms) amp is based on the same circuitry as the existing Edge W stereo power amp (dual toroidal transformers, Class XA amplification) and uses the same chassis design. Each Edge M power amp provides double the power of the Edge W, scaling up the Edge platform and, in turn expanding possible loudspeaker options. Of course, two Edge M power amps will be a perfect match with Cambridge Audio’s Edge NQ Preamp/Streamer.
The Edge M monoblocks will be available Mid-December at cambridgeaudio.com.

Cambridge Audio doubles the power with new Edge M monoblock power amplifier
18th November, London, UK – British audio specialists Cambridge Audio has added the Edge M monoblock power amplifier to its acclaimed high-end Edge series of hi-fi components.
The Edge series celebrates Cambridge Audio’s 50-year history and the company’s mission of creating products that bring the “Great British Sound” – a pure, unfiltered audio experience – into the home, offering the company’s most transparent-sounding and accomplished products to date. All Edge series products are now available to buy online directly from CambridgeAudio.com.
The new Edge M takes the principle designs of the existing Edge W power amplifier, and applies it to a monoblock design, delivering twice the power and a more faithful, dynamic sound with less distortion.
Edge M has a beautifully minimal design, with the Edge series’ trademark curved extruded aluminum front and floating top plate present across both boxes. Balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided along with speaker outputs, and under this minimal exterior lies some extraordinary audio engineering inside.
Twice the power
Edge M retains the characteristic clarity and musical depth of its Edge W stereo counterpart but, because each unit drives a single speaker, the power output is doubled to 200W RMS into 8 Ohms. As a result, Edge M delivers more effortless dynamics and a less strained sound, as well as less distortion per channel and between the channels.
With Edge M also fully balanced from input to output, it is immune from noise and distortion.
Powerfully subtle sound
Even with the immense power behind it, Edge M’s sonic performance is remarkably detailed and finely balanced. Using the Edge series’ ethos of choosing components that simply sound the best, Edge M delivers an impressively detailed three-dimensional sound with striking staging and focus.
Similar to the Edge W, Cambridge Audio’s engineers have worked hard to minimize the number of components in the Edge M’s signal path, ensuring there are fewer barriers between you and the music you love. As a result, Edge M delivers a more faithful reproduction of the original recording.
Effortless power with minimal distortion
Cambridge Audio’s unique Class XA amplification format used in Edge A and Edge W amplifiers is also found in Edge M. Class XA amplification technology offers the sound quality of a Class A design, but is more efficient as it produces less heat, and shifts the crossover point out of audible range, resulting in a cleaner sound.
Edge M uses opposing symmetry twin toroidal transformer design, which cancels out stray electromagnetic interference while at the same time offering outstanding power and maintaining consistent tonality even at loud volumes.
Edge M monoblock power amplifier is designed to partner perfectly with other Edge components in Cambridge Audio’s Edge series, such as the versatile Edge NQ preamplifier network streamer.
Cambridge Audio Edge M monoblock power amplifier is priced at £3,999 / $4,000 / €4,499 and will be available in December 2020.
All Edge series products are available to buy online directly from CambridgeAudio.com.
