Grado Labs, a renowned name in the audio industry, has announced the launch of its latest creation, the Signature S950 open-back headphones. Following the recent release of the HP100 SE, the S950 marks the second addition to Grado’s new flagship Signature line.
Grado Signature S950: Handcrafted from Brazilian Walnut
Staying true to their heritage, Grado has chosen Brazilian Walnut for the S950’s housing, a first for the company. This wood, known for its density and resistance to decay, contributes to the headphones’ relaxed musical presentation and stability. The use of Brazilian Walnut is also said to ensure the S950’s acoustical characteristics remain consistent regardless of temperature or humidity changes.
Unique Sound Signature
Grado believes that different woods offer distinct sonic characteristics. As such, the S950 is expected to have its own balanced and neutral sound signature, contrasting with the more analytical sound of the machined aluminum HP100 SE.

Lightweight and Comfortable
The Signature S950 weighs a mere 395 grams, promising a comfortable fit and reduced fatigue during long listening sessions. Each pair of headphones is individually crafted, with the wood grain of each housing being unique.
Grado Signature S950: Advanced Speaker Design
The S950 features a 52mm S driver, a version of the one used in the award-winning HP100 SE. This driver, with its paper composite cone and high-flux magnetic circuit, aims to deliver exceptional detail, smooth midrange, and powerful bass with minimal distortion.

Detachable Cables for Customization
The Signature S950 comes with detachable cables, a feature first introduced with the HP100 SE. The standard cable is a 6-foot Grado Signature Gold cable with a 6.35mm single-ended termination. Future options will include 4-pin balanced XLR and 4.4mm balanced terminations, as well as variable cable lengths.
Updated Headband Assembly
The S950 also features the new headband assembly from the HP100 SE, designed for comfort during extended listening. It boasts 50% more padding than previous Grado models and includes a stainless-steel band with adjustable height rods for a customized fit.
Grado Signature S950: Pricing and Availability
The Grado Signature S950 is scheduled to ship in early March with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $2,195 (US).
