New Music Friday March 3: Album Of The Week-Ivan Blomqvist -“Bror”

This week’s Album Of The Week is Ivan Blomqvist’s “Bror”

From the promo material:

Ivan Blomqvist – pianist, synth wizard, and producer – has established a distinctive voice on the Scandinavian music scene through projects such as Rohey, Mosambique, Neon Ion and the debut album “Nu minns jag” released on Jazzland Recordings in 2020.

The sequel, “Bror” (“Brother”), is a mix of jazz, electronic and ambient music. The album is suggestive, minimalistic, and meditative, and a vein of melancholy runs through the songs.

Ivan’s productions combine acoustic piano, analog synths, organic beats, and rustic timbres in a heartfelt and future-oriented expression. The album has guest musicians of the highest class. On the track “Jonas”, we get to hear Daniel Herskedal’s lyrical tuba playing in a ten-minute long undulating song. Karl Nyberg (Saxophone) and Lyder Røed (Trumpet) both contribute with their unique expression on, among others, “Tomheten” and “Släpp inte farmor” and throughout the album Lise Sørensen’s fragile lines lie like a beautiful veil.
