Focal, the renowned French audio innovator, has launched its latest masterpiece: the Bathys MG wireless headphones. Designed for discerning consumers and audiophiles, the Bathys MG promises to redefine wireless listening, blending high-fidelity sound with advanced active noise cancellation.
Focal’s commitment to quality is indicated by the choice of premium materials, including genuine leather, magnesium, and aluminum. These materials make sure the headphones are not only lightweight and comfortable but also remarkably robust.
At the heart of the Bathys MG lie new, exclusive full-range drivers featuring magnesium “M” shape domes. These domes, crafted in France, are said to deliver a sound that is natural, dynamic, and incredibly detailed.
Wireless connectivity is powered by Bluetooth 5.2 utilizing the AAC, aptX™, aptX™ Adaptive, and SBC codecs. In addition, new digital microphones enhance active noise cancellation and voice clarity.
Comfort is paramount, with new memory foam cushions and a lighter headband for extended listening pleasure.
The headphones boast a striking design, featuring a backlit logo, a magnesium yoke, and an aluminum bracket, all complemented by a real leather headband and an elegant chestnut finish reminiscent of the Clear MG headphones.
Quoted battery life is impressive, offering 30 hours in wireless mode, 35 hours in jack mode, and a remarkable 42 hours in USB-DAC mode. A quick 15-minute charge provides an additional five hours of listening.
The Focal & Naim application allows users to fine-tune their audio experience with predefined or personalized settings, adapting the sound to their environment. Three noise-canceling modes—Silent, Soft, and Transparent—and a personalized hearing test further enhance the listening experience.
For audiophiles, the Bathys MG includes a USB-DAC mode supporting high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz, complete with a built-in DAC and integrated amplifier. While the original Bathys, launched in 2022, remains available, the Bathys MG represents the pinnacle of Focal’s wireless headphone technology.
Priced at $1,299 USD ($1,699 CAD), the Bathys MG will be available in May 2025.
