Pretty much anyone I know who has listened to the Kef LS50 mini-monitor for any amount of time, usually ends up with their jaw dropped to the floor as they encounter sound the magnitude of which they cannot fathom is coming from such a small speaker.
The only complaint I have heard from some folks is regarding the bright gold color of the uni-q driver array on the Black/Gold model that is very popular at retailers. Well for those who chafe at the more adventrous colorways of the LS50, behold the black on black LS50 Black Edition.
As of this writing, it looks like it’s only available in the UK, hope it will make its way to the states soon.

Still one of KEF’s most popular models, the legendary KEF LS50 is now also available in a striking Black Edition.
Still containing all the state-of-the-art acoustic end engineering innovations found in the standard finish LS50, this new Black Edition guarantees a top-class musical performance to complement its stunning looks. Featuring the highly acclaimed Uni-Q driver array in black set in a matt black cabinet coated with metallic powder, the LS50 Black Edition also has a special plaque featuring a unique serial number for each pair of speakers. Each pair also features a unique Black Edition trim ring and black Chrome plated terminals – all of which combine to convey disproportionately huge impact and gravitas in a bookshelf-sized package. The finished product in all black renews the celebratory design concept of the original LS50 – with added authority and sleek sophistication.
A range that four years ago won gushing praise, and swept the boards with Product of the Year awards from highly respected reviewers such as What Hi-Fi? and Stereophile, among many others. With What Hi-Fi? summarising their review as ‘Simply brilliant’.
BTW, looks like it’s only available in the UK for now, hope it will make its way to the states soon.
I’m an audio writer who started as a young audio salesman/consumer electronics professional back in the late 90s. That’s where I discovered the magic of 2-Channel sound. My thirst for great sound has led me on a delightful music quest that continues today.
