A little over a month ago, at a Cambridge Audio demo in Chicago, I heard about their new “cost no object” 50th Anniversary line that would be on display at the AXPONA show in April. So when they started teasing it last week on the Cambridge Audio USA Twitter account, I knew what they were talking about, but I couldn’t wait to get the details.
Well, today the wait is over because the site for the new line called Edge is up. As of right now, they have three components on display, which include the Edge A, billed as their most detailed integrated amplifier, the Edge NQ Preamp/Network Streamer, and the Edge W 2-Channel Class AB Power Amp. As far as release date, they are designated as “coming soon”.
All pieces are museum quality with minimalist designs conveyed via curved aluminum facias and the least possible amount of buttons.
The series is named after one of CA’s early engineers Professor Gordon Edge, and even though it is marketed as a “cost no object” line, this still seems to be a company who is offering a high-value proposition with electronics that are relatively affordable for high-end audio. The Edge series is priced from $5000 for the integrated amp, down to $4000 for the preamp/streamer, and $3000 for the 2-Channel amp. However, to put it in perspective, this is definitely a new arena for a company whose components were all previously below $2000.
